In one of the museum’s courtyards, there is a swimming pool framed by a limestone deck. In a way, it’s the last thing you would expect in places like that. Nevertheless, I dived in to explore it inside and out.
Created by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich, “Swimming Pool” is a permanent exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. The installation creates an optical illusion of people submerged underwater. The water is on top of a pane of glass, which forms the ceiling of the light blue-colour room below that you can enter, and is only 10cm deep.
