I took the Asama Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano and a bus to Yamanouchi-machi, a hot spring town in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, famous for its bathing snow monkeys. The train ride was just over an hour and a half and the bus ride through the countryside. Later on, after a half-hour walk through the forest, I arrived at Korakukan Jigokudani, a rustic ryokan nested in the valley next to the beautiful Jigokudani Yaen National Park in the mountains of the Yudanaka Onsen. It’s a little hidden paradise.
