Manga: The Liminal Zone By Junji Ito

M

Just finished reading it and I loved it but I love everything this author creates. What a twisted and talented mind. The sensory threshold is a concept often explored in the horror manga and anime of Junji Ito. In his works, the liminal zone is a space between the real world and the supernatural, a place where the rules of reality are suspended and anything can happen.

One of the most famous examples of the liminal zone in Ito’s work is in his manga series “Uzumaki,” (again a must-read) which tells the story of a town that is haunted by spirals. The liminal zone in this story is the town itself, which has become a place where the supernatural and the everyday coexist in a terrifying and confusing manner.

As the story progresses, the characters must navigate the dangers of the liminal zone in order to survive. They must confront their fears and confront the otherworldly forces that threaten to destroy them. In the end, only those who are able to overcome their fear and embrace the liminal zone will be able to escape its clutches and survive.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

What destiny awaits them after the screaming? After abruptly departing from a train in a small town, a couple encounters a "weeping woman" _a professional mourner- sobbing inconsolably at a funeral. Mako changes afterward -she can't stop crying! In another tale, having decided to die together, a couple enters Aokigahara, the infamous suicide forest. What is the shocking otherworldly torrent that they discover there? One of horror's greatest talents, Junji Ito beckons readers to join him in an experience of ultimate terror with four transcendently terrifying tales.

This and all his works are easily accessible to anyone with an Amazon Kindle; my favourite way to buy and read all manga lately.
