Netflix will be streaming an anime adaptation of Hideki Anbo’s science-fiction novel series Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune on May 18.
The series is set in a future where the solar system is dominated by trade federations who are in conflict. Akira, the protagonist, joins an orbital drop infantry unit in order to escape his homeland of Japan, despite the fact that they have a 70% casualty rate and are nicknamed “Yakitori” for their expendability.
The anime is being directed by Hideki Anbo and written by Mitsuyasu Sakai, with character designs by Atsushi Yamagata and music by Ken Ishii. The novel series was first published by Hayakawa Publishing in August 2017.
