Geoffrey Hinton, known as the “Godfather of AI”, has resigned from Google in order to warn people of the potential risks of AI, including misinformation, automation of tasks and job loss.
His decision was prompted by the rapid rise of chatbots, such as ChatGPT, powered by GPT-4, and the competition between Microsoft Bing, Google Bard and ChatGPT.
Hinton is calling for more regulation and transparency in the development of AI, and for companies to understand whether they can control the technology before scaling it up further.
It’s good that there are some smart people concerned about the progress AI is making and how it will change our lives, at the same time let’s not forget about all the good things AI can do for us.
